Here’s what works – and what doesn’t
The outdoor hot springs are magical, surrounded by stunning nature. The attentive staff ensured a smooth and authentic experience, truly immersing us in Japanese culture.
Despite its charm, the property can get busy, feeling less secluded than expected, and some extra communication regarding food options would be helpful.

An ideal choice for a cursory stop in Minakami with great value for the money. The hot springs were delightful, especially early in the morning. Avoid visiting during peak holiday times for a better experience.

The beautiful surroundings of Takaragawa Onsen Ousenkaku made my stay particularly enjoyable. The outdoor baths were serene, situated by the river, and easily accessible for seniors, providing a peaceful atmosphere amidst nature's beauty.
Heighten clarity in food descriptions for non-Japanese speakers.

The food was top-notch, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. We had a cozy Japanese-style room with a great view of the river. Plan for a relaxing escape and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Don’t miss the shuttle service, it runs smoothly even during snowstorms!
One thing that threw us off was the food selection. It was very traditional, and some dishes included ingredients I wasn’t a fan of, like mushrooms. Communication around the food could be better, especially for us non-Japanese speakers.

Magical, Magical, Magical.
I loved soaking in the open-air onsen with views of the snowy river valley-it felt like a scene straight out of a postcard! The Japanese-style room I stayed in was spacious, clean, and had the coziest futons that wrapped me in warmth as the snow fell outside. Plus, the meals were a delicious feast of traditional Japanese cuisine, perfectly catered to my dietary needs while making each bite a tasty discovery!
would recommend 🥰✨

Our stay at Takaragawa Onsen Ousenkaku was truly unforgettable. The outdoor onsen offered breathtaking views of the river, especially as the snow fell gently around us. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making our experience even more enjoyable. The food was simply superb, a beautiful introduction to traditional Japanese cuisine, with plenty of variety to choose from.
The instructions around using the onsen could have been clearer.

Stunning river view from the room.
The lack of assistance with luggage was frustrating. Arriving late, we felt rushed straight into dinner without a chance to freshen up. The common areas felt cold and uninviting, with harsh fluorescent lighting that ruined the ambiance.

Takaragawa Onsen offered a magical experience with fine scenery and really good outdoor baths. The staff provided warmth and assistance throughout our stay, enhancing the ambiance. Some room details showed signs of aging, which slightly detracted from the otherwise good experience.

The onsen atmosphere was enchanting, truly a tranquil retreat with stunning views. However, some parts felt a bit dated, and privacy could have been better enforced in the baths. Overall, the meals were satisfying, and the hospitality was warm, making it a memorable experience.

The hot springs were absolutely stunning and it felt like we were in a
fairy tale surrounded by nature. The staff was warm and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed, including delicious meals. However, the futons were a bit too firm for our taste, affecting our sleep quality.
